NAUCHTLITIR-DEIREADH FOMHAIR 2011
Branch AGM, 27
October 2011
The branch AGM takes place on 27th October in The Premier
Travel Inn, George Street, Glasgow at 7.00pm. It would be really good to see
some new faces come along and take an interest in the branch. Ideally we would
like one member from each family to attend. If anyone is interested in
volunteering to help out with the running to the branch, in any capacity, we
would really like to hear from you. Please send an email confirming your
interest or speak to a member of the committee. New people bring new ideas!
Young Traditional
Musician of the Year
Both
our members, Katie Boyle and Roisin Anne Hughes gave
outstanding performances. There was also a good crowd of supporters who
travelled down for the night and enjoyed an excellent competition. The results
were announced on Sunday and the great news is that both girls have qualified
for the final which takes place on 5th February in the City Hall.
Two finalists out of six…..not bad!!!
5th
Annual Fundraiser Dance for Mary’s Meals
The 5th Annual Fundraiser Dance for Mary’s Meals is being
held on 22nd October in Christ the King Hall at 8pm. Music will be
supplied by the Amadans. There will also be an
auction and some amazing prizes on the night. Tickets cost £10 and are
available from Kelly’s Bar, Pollockshaws Road,
telephone number 0141 423 1387, from Evelyn Sexton 0141 571 0934 or from Lyn Crumlish on 07771 855 472.
Comhaltas Membership
If you haven’t already paid your membership fees for this year, it’s not
too late. You can pay on a Tuesday night at the class. Please speak to Cathleen
Armstrong.
Monthly Junior Ceili
There will be a Junior Ceili on Saturday 15th
October in St. Helen’s at 2pm. Everyone is welcome.
Please try to encourage as many of our young musicians as possible to go along.
Masterclasses for October
The masterclasses for seniors will continue in
October. On Tuesday 11th we have flute player Kevin O’Neill from
Treacherous Orchestra. On Tuesday 25th, we have concertina virtuoso
Simon Thoumire. Each recital takes place at 7.45pm.
Tinto Summer
School needs your vote!!!
Over the years, many of our young
people have attended Tinto Summer School. It is a week of brilliant music
workshops for young people that is inspiring for everyone involved. Tinto are
looking for your vote to secure a grant from RBS of £6000. This is an absolutely
fantastic project and the grant would make a huge difference, as at the moment
it runs on a very tight budget. To register your vote, log on to http://communityforce.rbs.co.uk/project/535. It will only take a few minutes of your time.
Safety and Protection of Children
Parents/Guardians must remain on the
premises to supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of their children
under the age of 16. Please make sure that you know where your child is at all
times and ensure that children do not run in corridors, congregate on the
stairwells or climb on the windowsills. You are very welcome to sit in on
classes, learn an instrument or join the set dancers, but let your child’s
tutor know where you are in the building.
Keep the school tidy!
Please leave classrooms, toilets,
corridors and stairs clean and tidy after use, and remember to put desks and
chairs back in order for St. Roch’s pupils next day. Please also be vigilant
and make sure that children are not wandering around areas of the school where
they are not supposed to be.
Spare Instruments
If you have a spare flute
which is not being used at the moment, and you would be happy to loan it to another
member of our branch, please contact a committee member and let them know.
Ceili Classes
There are ceili classes available in St. John's Barrhead
every Sunday night from 7pm - 9pm. The classes cost £1.50 and everyone is
welcome to come along.
On a Thursday night, ceili classes are available in St. Helen's from 8pm -
10.15pm and again, all are welcome.
